KOTA KINABALU - Traffic was put on a standstill when a car exploded in the middle of road in front of the courthouse in down town Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday.
Driver of the vehicle Hendry S, 31, said he was from the city central market and driving to send some stocks when he suddenly heard a 'POP' sound from the engine.
"I stopped the car and unbuckled my seatbelt before running out," he said, adding the car exploded and caught fire almost immediately after he ran but did not injure anyone within the vicinity.
All vehicles behind the burning car were not able to pass though the single-lane road, causing a temporary hold up in the 9.45am incident.
Firemen and police arrived shortly after the second explosion about 10 minutes later and managed to put out the fire in about five minutes.
No one or other properties were injured in the incident.
