JOHOR BAHRU - A video clip of dogs being bludgeoned to death with metal rods at the back of a warehouse in Skudai, has enraged netizens.

Sivamalar Thevagar said on the Malaysian Independent Animal Rescue page, "I cannot dare to watch this cruelty. ..but I shared the video. ..what and how can we stop this bloody act?"

Another netizen, Premilla Ann David, called the act sick and inhumane. Netizen Hana Ghazali said, "I don't understand why the councils resort to killing strays. Why can't they rehabilate these strays instead?"

Netizen Lisa Wong said, "This is deeply distressful. I'm left wondering how sane rational officers can bludgeon, then stand and watch a helpless tied-up animal cry in pain to death. Is compassion and mercy dead?

G. Suhanthan, 28, who took the video, said he witnessed the incident last Thursday.

"I could hear the dogs crying in pain and blood spilling all over the place. I took out my mobile phone and recorded the slayings which lasted for about 20 minutes."

The Johor Baru Central Municipal Council has admitted it was a "terrible mistake" and would be investigating the matter.
