Child, 2, and parents die in crash

A couple in the Malaysian army and their two-year-old daughter were killed in a crash along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak (Pahang) highway at about 7am on Wednesday.

Bentong Deputy Superintendent Wan Azharudin Wan Ismail said Corporal Jiman Raup, 32, Corporal Nik Zaieyahaliza Ya, 29, and daughter Nurul Damia were travelling in a Perodua Alza towards Kuala Lumpur when it skidded.

The car rammed through the centre divider before colliding head on with a tanker, The Star reported.

The victims died on the spot from severe multiple injuries, police said.

The impact caused the trio to be pinned to their seats and firefighters had to extricate their bodies, the police said. DSP Wan Azharudin said post-mortem results showed that the wife had been two months' pregnant.

Their colleagues said both were friendly and hardworking. Cpl Jiman was with the Royal Military College and his wife was with an army base music training centre. Cpl Nik Zaieyahaliza's cousin, Ms Asliza Abdullah, said she was still in shock over the accident.

She said: "They were very excited to be expecting another child. (I last) saw them at a relative's house to break fast during the fasting month this year."

Ms Asliza said the couple had gone to Terengganu to spend time with her family on Saturday.

She said: "She wanted to spend time with her family this Hari Raya Haji as they had gone to Sabah to spend time with her husband's family during Hari Raya Aidilfitri."
