Coffee shop owner cries foul over razor in ‘kuih’
Traditional Malay cakes, or kuih.

KOTA KINABALU: A coffee shop owner was shocked to find pieces of razor embedded inside his kuih kelupis.

He now believes someone is out to sabotage his business by placing the razor in the traditional kuih.

Kuih kelupis is a glutinous rice roll and is a traditional kuih for the Bruneian Malay people in Sabah and Sarawak.

The trader, who only wished to be identified as Awang, 35, said he had just opened up his coffee shop at the Beaufort town when a customer showed him the kuih with a razor inside at about 9am on Feb 14.

"I was shocked and brought the kuih kelupis to the police station to lodge a report at about 4pm the same day," he said.

According to locals, the trader's kuih kelupis is among the most famous in the district.

Beaufort district police chief Deputy Supt Mustaffa Maarof Mustaffa confirmed they had received a report from the man and were investigating the matter.

Despite lodging a report, he said Awang was not planning on pursuing the matter.

"But we will keep an eye on this matter as peoples' lives may be in danger if such an incident recurs," he said.
