Commission to probe 'derogatory' tweet against daughter of MH370 chief steward

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating the case involving a Twitter account holder who allegedly made derogatory remarks against Maria Elizabeth, the daughter of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 chief steward Andrew Nari, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Its strategic communications senior director Sheikh Raffie Abd Rahman said MCMC was seriously investigating the case and urged members of the public with information on the account holder, Zharif Hakim, to come forward to facilitate investigation.

"We received a few JPEG images of the Twitter postings. We are looking into it and investigating the case vigorously."

"If we have the grounds, MCMC would take action under Section 211 or 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said.

Sheikh Raffie said public information was needed as sometimes it was difficult to locate an individual if his account had been terminated or found to be fake.

"If there is a link or URL to Zharif's active social media profile, it would help us in our investigation," he said.

On Monday, Zharif, in response to Maria's heart-wrenching tweet to her father: "God loves you more, daddy... God loves them more" said: "Bapa kau dah mampus mati bangang tak payah nak kecoh la. Bapa kau dah mati faham tak DAH MATI. Bapa botak licin. Hahaha." (Your father is already dead, stupid. No need to create a fuss. Your father is bald).

After the first tweet, Zharif posted another: "Kenapa la Najib (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak) tak ada dalam MH370, bagi dia mampus macam botak licin itu." (Why Najib wasn't in MH370 so that he could die like the bald man.) Sheikh Raffie advised netizens to immediately report such postings to the platform owners such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube apart from the police or MCMC.[[nid:94418]] [[nid:95744]] [[nid:95587]][[nid:91120]]
