KUALA LUMPUR - Firemen who rushed to a condominium block in Taman Sungai Besi uncovered a drug processing laboratory at a penthouse.

The team from the Bandar Tun Razak station arrived at the scene at about noon following a fire call. But there was no fire.

The alarm was a result of smoke which came from chemicals used to process syabu at the penthouse that triggered the smoke detector.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Senior Asst Supt M. Letchumanan said a group of people was busy processing syabu when the smoke detector was triggered.

"They escaped before we arrived after being alerted by the smoke. There was no fire but the smoke detector was triggered as a result of several chemicals being processed," he said.

He said firemen found various types of bottles and chemical powders at the penthouse.
