KOTA KINABALU - Security forces in the east coast of the state have been reminded to maintain their guard despite the improving security situation in the area, said the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).

Its commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said Esscom personnel should renew their determination to accomplish their mission to defend the sovereignty and security of the people, especially in Esszone.

"Only with such spirit can we continue to strengthen and protect the sovereignty of our country," he said at a farewell dinner for four senior Esscom officials who have been transferred to the peninsula.

Rashid recalled how Esscom began in 2013 as a small team which lacked manpower. But now, it has evolved into an important aspect of security, especially in Sabah's east coast.

"I thank all of those who have put their hearts and soul into protecting Sabah's waters, and we hope all security forces here will continue to safeguard the nation," he added.

The four senior officials transferred are Senior Asst Comm Abdul Manaf Othman, Asst Comm Ahmad Taufek Abdullah, ACP Willey Richard and ACP Kamaruddin Ismail.

Esscom was set up on April 1, 2013, following the intrusion of Sulu gunmen into Lahad Datu.
