Contractor’s future destroyed by drug abuse

KUANTAN - At 30, he has a Class F contractor licence and looks set to be a successful businessman. However, his addiction to drugs saw his promising career ruined and his family torn apart.

On Friday, acting on a tip-off and a two-month surveillance, the police raided his house in Kampung Bukit Serdang in Kuala Bera, about 170km from here, and detained the man.

The raiding party led by Insp Syahril Nizam Jamil, seized an assortment of drugs, including heroin, syabu, ketamine and Erimin 5 pills, with an estimated street value of nearly RM45,000 (S$17,541).

Bera OCPD Deputy Supt Zul Haizal Zainal Abidin said the team also confiscated RM13,800 in various denominations, believed to be proceeds from ill-gotten gains, as well as materials used to package drugs.

DSP Zul Haizal said a car and two motorcycles, including one reported missing in Jerantut last July, were also seized.

The suspect is being investigated for drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

It is learnt the suspect's wife of three years had left him with their two-year-old child due to his addiction. The suspect had also leased out his Class F contractor licence to third parties.
