Cop feared drowned, 3 weapons missing in sea training mishap

KUCHING - A policeman is feared drowned while three service weapons were missing when a boat carrying six General Operations Force (GOF) personnel capsized during a routine training off the coast of Lundu this afternoon.

The victim identified as Corporal Ahmad Zaidi, 38, and the five other men, are attached with the 11th Battalion GOF based in Batu Kawa.

Three of their service weapons were also reported missing in the 4pm incident.

Lundu Fire and Rescue Department sent a nine-man search party at 4.30pm and the operation was still ongoing.

Its director Nor Hisham Muhammad said they would seek help from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency as the sea condition was unsafe for small boats.

"Our operation is limited to the coastline and the weather is too dangerous for us to go out in the open sea," he said.
