Cops attacked during Johor pub brawl

JOHOR - The two policemen tried to stop a fight in a Johor Baru pub, but were attacked by the group of 20 men.

One officer ended up being robbed of his valuables and cash.

The policeman who was robbed was also hospitalised for his injuries, while his colleague was given outpatient treatment after the 2am incident in Jalan Susur several days ago, The Star reported.

The two Johor constables were meeting policemen from Kuala Lumpur who wanted to invite them to a wedding.

A fight erupted in the pub and the two Johor policemen tried to defuse the situation.

They identified themselves as policemen, but the situation worsened when the two fighting factions decided to turn on the law enforcers.

Said a source: "They hit one of the policeman with a wooden stick and robbed him of his cash and jewellery."

The two policemen were sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment.

Johor Baru South police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Yaacob said that police had picked up several people in connection with the case. They are currently investigating.
