Cops to detain nanny of toddler who allegedly fell to his death

SUNGAI BULOH - Police are expected to detain a 26-year-old nanny for questioning over a possible case of abuse, after she brought a dead toddler to a hospital here with bruises that matched that of a fall from a high place.

The one-year-old boy was declared dead at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on New Year's Eve, with doctors shocked by the bruises on the child's chin, lip, head, stomach, waist and back.

They lodged a police report and officers said they would detain the nanny. However, they were unable to determine if the cause of death was a result of abuse or an accident.

"The nanny said that the boy had a fall sometime before Christmas and that was what caused the bruises. However, his mother claims that those bruises were not there on the child when she left him on the morning of Dec 31, 2015," said Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Rozi Jidin.

He said the nanny, a neighbour, had brought the unconscious child to a local clinic in Section U5 at about 6pm, Thursday.

Doctors there performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the child but failed to revive him. He was then brought to the Sungai Buloh Hospital where he was declared dead.

A post-mortem determined that the child had died due to injuries sustained from a fall.

Supt Mohd Rozi said the nanny had been caring for the child for about two months prior to his death.
