Cops hunting teen suspects after hostel 'shooting'

KOTA KINABALU - Police are looking for a group of teenagers following reports of a "shooting" at a college hostel in Penampang.

A teenager, or a few of them, shot at the window panes using a slingshot or an air rifle.

A student, who was having dinner with a friend, heard what sounded like several "bangs" from outside the hostel at about 6.45pm on Monday.

However, the students did not see anyone when they went outside to check.

City police chief Assist Comm M. Chandra said: "We believe that the suspects are mischievous teenagers from the village beside the hostel.

"We found several holes on the window panes, believed to have been caused by marbles or ball bearings from an airgun."

According to ACP Chandra, the students told police that some male teenagers from the nearby village had thrown rocks and marbles at the hostel wall between 2pm and 3pm on Sunday.

"We are looking into both cases and believe that the same people are responsible," he said.

No one was hurt in both incidents.
