Cops seek witnesses into death of Malaysian girl at Royal Adelaide Show

SYDNEY- The Malaysian girl who was flung to her death from a ride at the Royal Adelaide Show was the "little angel" of her mother's heart.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald on Wedneday, the eight-year-old girl identified as Adelene Leong was on holiday when she was thrown from the Airmaxx 360 ride last Friday.

"My lovely beautiful ... wonderful little angel of my heart," is how her mother described her daughter to police, according to the report.

Police investigators were now appealing for witnesses. The report said that the police wanted to hear from anyone with photos or video footage of the ride in action or who experienced anything unusual on the ride.

"Even a small detail may be the crucial information which leads to a clear understanding of what took place," the Sydney Morning Herald said citing Chief Inspector Selena Dinning.

The Sydney Morning Herald said that police were preparing a report for the coroner and had so far spoken to 30 to 40 people since Friday.

It also quoted Chief Inspector Dinning as saying that it was far too early to say whether the ride operators would face charges.

According to the report, Adelene, at 120 centimetres high, met the minimum height requirement for the ride.

It quoted witness Malinda Dunwoodie, 17, as saying that the girl's safety harness was still down but it looked as if she slipped out of her seat. "I was shaking so much, she looked like a doll flying through the air. It was so shocking. It was like a horror movie."

The Sydney Morning Herald said the ride was a new addition for the Royal Adelaide show this year and that it had been seized by SafeWork SA. However, it remained at the site at the showground.
