A crane driver cheated death when his vehicle plunged 25m at a construction site at Persiaran Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya on Thursday.

Sinar Harian reported that the driver's right leg was impaled by a steel rod after the crash.

Damansara Fire and Rescue Senior Officer II Jaswant Singh said rescuers received a call at 9.45am and reached the site five minutes later.

Rescuers took about 15 minutes to get the driver, an Indonesian, to safety. He was taken the University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Jaswant said the cause of the incident was still being investigated.
