Datuk under probe over gun incident

KOTA KINABALU - Police seized a pistol from a high-profile Datuk after he allegedly assaulted an elderly community leader at gunpoint in Lido on Saturday.

The Datuk, who is a leader of a native community association, allegedly pointed the gun after punching and kicking the 62-year-old man.

It is learnt that the victim had earlier told the Datuk, who was in the driver's seat of a car, not to obstruct traffic as his vehicle was parked in the middle of the busy Lido road.

The victim lodged a police report at the City police headquarters the same day for fear of his safety.

However, Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said yesterday the victim withdrew his police report the next day and police had confiscated the pistol from the Datuk.

He said investigations would continue and the investigation papers would be referred to the senior federal counsel for further action. The case is being investigated for disorderly conduct and criminal intimidation.
