SHAH ALAM - Multiple injuries have been found on the body of an infant who died in a car while travelling from here to Penang.
The child's 16-year-old mother and her 33-year-old boyfriend have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the infant, who was over a year old, died at about 10.30pm on Sunday.
"The mother told police that they were going to Penang to send the infant for medical treatment," he said.
"She claimed to have only noticed that her child was dead when she turned around to feed the infant.
"They then rushed the child to Hospital Kuala Kangsar."
Doctors at the hospital, said SAC Mohd Adnan, pronounced the infant dead on arrival at the emergency room.
"Post-mortem results showed that the infant's body was covered in bruises," he said.
"We suspect that these bruises were from physical abuse."
The police, said SAC Mohd Adnan, arrested the couple after the mother lodged a report in Perak.
"She was originally from Taman Klang Utama, Bukit Raja, here. The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.
SAC Adnan declined to reveal the gender of the infant or if the girl's boyfriend was related to the child.
