Divorcee dies after setting himself on fire

IPOH - A 53-year-old divorcee died after setting himself on fire by the roadside in Taman Perak here.

Police received a distress call from the public at about 1.55pm stating that a man was on fire at the housing estate.

The victim, Lee Chew Joon, died at the scene, said Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong.

The Fire and Rescue Department managed to put out the fire.

He added police had checked Lee's handphone, and his last message was to a friend, allegedly stating the intention to end his life.

"The victim is divorced from his wife and his four children are all working in Kuala Lumpur."

Lee's body was sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for a post-mortem.
