ROMPIN, Pahang - Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has told Felda settlers here not to waste their votes on PAS because the party cannot solve their problems.
In a final push for Barisan Nasional, he urged Rompin constituents to think about their future and who would be able to help them with their problems.
"It is not a question of now but the future. Who is going to take care of your children and grandchildren?
"We will inevitably face problems. Who has never faced any problems in life? That is what the Government is here for, to solve your problems," Muhyiddin said at the ground-breaking ceremony for a new hall in Felda Keratong 4 here yesterday.
He pointed out that the Federal Government and the Pahang government were both held by Barisan and problems could not be solved without government support.
"Even if PAS wins, what can it do? Solve the land problems and housing for the second generation of Felda settlers?" he asked.
Muhyiddin added that Barisan's candidate, Datuk Hasan Arifin, might not be able to solve every problem but he would still be more capable with the support of the Government in terms of funding and allocations.
Speaking to reporters later, Muhyiddin said voters could evaluate for themselves the real purpose behind PAS' push for hudud in its campaign.
"PAS knows that the Chinese community does not agree with hudud so perhaps it is trying to fish for the Malay votes instead. It cannot provide answers to issues so it is now using hudud to get voters' attention," he said.
