KOTA TINGGI - Umno members must not be treated like children and be told what to think, said Johor Umno liaison chairman Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
The Johor Mentri Besar said those who blindly accepted any information fed to them would not be able to reach political maturity.
He said such a culture was not for Umno and that if it was, the nation would not have progressed to where it is now.
He also reminded members not to accept views without principle, be sweet-talked or let themselves be manipulated into following the views of others.
"Forcing views and information onto others and forcing them to accept them is also a form of dictatorship and tyranny of the mind," he said during the opening of the Kota Tinggi Umno division meeting at Felda Lok Heng here yesterday.
The meeting was opened by Deputy Prime Minister and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Mohamed Khaled said such action would not result in a mature society but make the people slaves to the minds of others instead.
He also said Umno had to be progressive and open to differing views, allow room for improvement and be ready to criticise and be criticised.
