PETALING JAYA - A senior citizen on his routine morning walk to buy the newspaper never made it home. He was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver.

Ali Redza Khalid, 84, was found dead in the middle of Jalan 14/48 at about 8am yesterday after he was allegedly hit by what police believe was a sedan car.

Family members said that the man was on his usual morning walk to the shop before returning home with a newspaper.

"He suffered internal bleeding and died at the scene. He was found about an hour later by passers-by. His body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre," said Petaling Jaya acting traffic police chief ASP Zulkifli Cheklah.

He said the two-lane road was dark during the accident. The case has been classified as reckless driving.

"We hope anyone with information on the accident or saw it will contact investigating officer Insp Hariati at 012-6995205. We just want to find the driver to assist in investigations," he said.

This is the second hit-and-run case in the district over the weekend.

On Sunday, a 35-year-old man was killed on the Damansara-Puchong Highway near St Ignatius Church in Kelana Jaya, after a speeding car hit the side of his Toyota Vios which spun out of control and crashed into the back of a tow truck.

The driver in the car fled the scene, while Lim Wing Soon died in his vehicle at about 11am Sunday.
