KUALA LUMPUR - A bogus "Datuk" has been detained for duping and then sexually assaulting two women.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Rusdi Md Isa said that the man, who worked as an electrician, was arrested at about 6.15pm on Wednesday.

"We received two reports, on June 9 and June 14, from two women aged 30 and 25.

"Both alleged they were sexually assaulted by the man who claimed to be a Datuk.

"The 37-year-old suspect has been remanded for six days to facilitate investigations," he said yesterday, adding that the man is believed to be involved in two other cases in Selangor.

SAC Rusdi also said investigations revealed that the suspect did not have any Datukship.

A Chinese daily reported that four women had accused one "Datuk Yap" of sexually assaulting them, bringing the total number of victims to more than 20.

The victims denied claims by the Datuk that they willingly had intercourse with him, instead alleging that they were drugged and raped.

They sought help from former police officer and founder of Community Policing Malaysia Kuan Chee Heng, who helped them lodge police reports.
