Families plead for loved ones to return

KUALA LUMPUR - At a time when most people are enjoying the company of family and friends, three families will spend Christmas not knowing if they will see their loved ones again.

All Soo King Kok, 55, wants for Christmas is to see his wife and mother of their 15-year-old son, Chong Swee Kim, again.

Swee Kim, 45, has been missing since Aug 22. She was last seen leaving the family's house in Pandan Indah.

Soo, a taxi driver, said Swee Kim had left that morning to repair her car but did not return.

"We have tried to contact her and search for her everywhere. My son and I are very worried and hope that she will find her way back to us soon," he said.

Another missing homemaker is Voon Yew Lian, 39, who disappeared on Saturday.

Her husband, a businessman known only as Ting, and her eight-year-old daughter have been looking high and low for Voon.

"She was supposed to pick up my daughter from her tuition class that day but never showed up. I appeal to her to return for the sake of our daughter," he pleaded.

For Normah Sahat, 70, being separated from her family is nothing new.

She was given up by her biological parents to a friend when she was only three months old in 1943.

Her adopted family later moved from their home in Singapore to Penang in 1953 and lost touch with her biological family.

The only details Normah remembers of her biological father was that his name was Hock Seng and he lived in Paya Lebar, Rumah Pasung, Serangoon Road, Singapore in 1942.

"She is seeking to reunite with her elder brother, who would be about 73 years old now," said Normah's daughter Norazlina Hamberos, 41.

The families spoke to reporters after seeking help from MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong at his office in Wisma MCA yesterday.
