Father and son escape gallows with reduced charge
WHAT HAPPENED? Madam Kuek's husband (right) and son (left) are facing murder charges in Malaysia. The Singaporean woman claimed that the men only pinned down a robber who slashed her.

A man and his son charged with the murder of a man who allegedly tried to rob a family member had the charge against them reduced, reported Guang Ming Daily.

The paper said the charge against Moo He Hong, 56, and his son Wee Keong, 28, was amended to that of causing death by negligence when the case came up at the Rembau magistrate's court on Wednesday.

Both claimed trial to the charge under Section 304A of the Penal Code which carries a maximum two-year jail term or a fine, or both.

They were originally charged on March 10 with murdering Chan Boon Poh, 43, who allegedly tried to rob He Hong's wife at a house in Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan, just past midnight on Feb 24.

Rembau magistrate Mahyun Yusof allowed them bail of RM8,500 (S$3190) each and set April 30 for mention at the magistrate's court in Gemas.
