KOTA KINABALU - A father killed a 38-year-old estate worker who allegedly tried to rape his daughter in an estate in Tawau.

The man was said to have sneaked up behind a 17-year-old girl who was watering plants at about 8.20am last Friday, before putting a sack over her head and hugging her from behind. The girl fought back and managed to flee.

It is learnt that her father, a 54-year-old security guard at the estate, was nearby and came to her rescue.

He attacked the man with a parang.

Tawau police chief Asst Comm Fadil Marsus said the man was slashed several times on his legs and body.

"The man collapsed and was sent to the hospital for treatment but he died soon after," he said.

The father was caught by another security guard and handed over to the police.

ACP Fadil said he would be remanded until June 2.

Meanwhile, in Alor Setar, a 31-year-old man slipped into coma after he was severely beaten up by a group of men for allegedly molesting a woman in a toilet at a mall here at 3pm on Sunday.

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin said the sister of the man lodged a police report after seeing a video of the bashing on Facebook.

"We are trying to identify all those involved," he said, adding that the man from Yan suffered injuries to his head, eyes, right ear, mouth and nose.

The 21-year-old woman said she spotted the man behaving suspiciously outside her shop.

"Later, when I was inside a cubicle in the toilet on the first floor, I heard the door open. When I opened the door to my cubicle, the man pushed me and tried to put his hand over my mouth," she said.

However, she screamed, alerting passers-by who rushed to her aid.

She later lodged a police report. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
