Firemen stop woman on 11th floor from jumping

Firemen prevented a mother of three, who had climbed onto an awning on the 11th floor of Desa Mentari flats in Petaling Jaya, from carrying out her threat to jump, reported Harian Metro and Berita Harian.

During the 7.20am incident on Wednesday, the Fire and Rescue Department took about 30 minutes to console the 35-year-old woman before bringing her to safety with a rope.

The woman, believed to be emotionally stressed, had climbed out of her kitchen window and stood on the awning of her neighbour's kitchen. Penchala fire station chief Zaidi Ahtan said when officers arrived at the scene, the victim's husband was trying to comfort her to no avail.

"Our officers spent about half an hour persuading the victim and, at the same time, we deployed a rope technique designed to save victims. Initially she was uneasy when our officers approached her. But they successfully contained the situation and the woman was saved," he said.

The woman was then handed over to the police for further action.
