Former Malaysian PM Dr Mahathir's blog not blocked, down due to heavy traffic

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blog - chedet.cc - was suspended due to massive traffic, following his latest posting on the controversial 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB).

It was not blocked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as speculated.

An aide to the former prime minister explained that the blog's administrator had to act accordingly as the "website was crashing" due to the high traffic volume.

"(Tun) Dr Mahathir's blog was not blocked by the MCMC. The administrator decided to suspend it because of unusual traffic and activity.

"It would have affected the server if they did not shut down the website," Sufi Yusof said here yesterday.

He said following the suspension of chedet.cc, the administrator carried out remedial and ratification work and looked into the "chain of events that led to the slowdown of the website".

Dr Mahathir's posting, titled 1MDB, was uploaded around 1pm and heavy traffic was detected around 3pm.

The site was inaccessible after 4pm with the message "Account Suspended".

The blog was up and running again at around 7.20pm.

The MCMC had earlier said that it had nothing to do with the site being suspended.
