Friends arrested for failed kidnap

A group of friends have been arrested and are now under police remand for a failed kidnap attempt at Genting Highlands.

The crime was uncovered when a witness spotted two suspects - a man and a woman - driving in a stolen Honda City.

The witness then lodged a police report at around 6.45am on Sunday, after coming across the suspects at the First World Hotel in Genting Highlands, reported Malaysia's The Star.

When approached by the police, the couple sped away in the vehicle and a car chase ensued. The driver subsequently lost control of the car and it flipped onto its side in Gohtong Jaya.

While the suspects were being arrested, two men and a woman arrived in a Proton Perdana, claiming to know the owner of the Honda City.

The police then took all five to the Bentong district police station for questioning. At that point, a police officer heard a muffled sound coming from the Proton Perdana's boot and found a man inside.

The man claimed that he and a female friend were kidnapped at the hotel's carpark.

TAILED

In a separate incident, a 64-year-old newspaper vendor suffered severe injuries near Jalan Kuching on Saturday morning while trying to flee from two men who were tailing him.

Mr Loh Kian Poh left home at 4am to collect the pile of newspapers that he was delivering around Taman Wahyu in Kuala Lumpur.

His wife, Madam Chong Rui Fong, 61, said Mr Loh had noticed two men trailing him on their motorcycles upon arriving at their Taman Wahyu residence at 5am.

Mr Loh quickly entered his house and waited for another two hours before he continued making his paper rounds.

At 7am, he noticed the same men following him from behind.

He diverted from his usual route and parked his motorcycle by the roadside before running away. But he slipped, fell into a drain and broke his ribs.

Witnesses called for an ambulance after seeing Mr Loh unconscious in the drain.

Mr Loh received treatment at a hospital. His wife and three sons have lodged a police report.
