PUCHONG - Those living in the neighbourhood thought it was just a decorative flag and were thus surprised to learn that one of their neighbours had actually been flying a Nazi flag.

The house located at Bandar Bukit Puchong has two flags, the Kriegsflagge, which is white and black and a Nazi flag called the Kriegsmarine, which is predominantly red.

When The Star Online visited the housing area, the two flags were flying high but the owner was nowhere to be seen.

However, a tenant at the house said the owner is a German graphic designer who has stayed there for eight months.

"He is a nice person and he recently raised these flags. I have been here for just a month.

"I do not know if he is a Nazi follower, you should ask him," said the tenant who did not want to be identified.

Efforts to reach the owner early on proved futile as he did not respond to calls.

A few hours later, however, the house owner phoned back and when asked about the flags, said: "It was just for fun. I do not want to further comment on this."

A neighbour said they were not aware that one of the flags was a Nazi flag.

"We only realised after you told us. We thought both were decorative flags.

"He does not cause any problem, he is always out on his own doing his stuff," said the neighbour who also did not want to be identified.

Another neighbour who identified himself as Dinesh said the house owner was a very calm man who mingled well with neighbours.

"These two flags are new. I think he just raised them. Last time, he had a Malaysian flag. I did not know one of the flags was a Nazi flag," said Dinesh who has stayed in that area for 12 years.

The Star Online got to know about the flags when Bandar Bukit Puchong resident, Preena Chandran e-mailed about the two Nazi-looking flags.

"My two kids come here for tuition and I saw the flags last week," said the 40-year-old housewife.

The Kriegsflagge, which was in existence from 1871 to 1872, was the German Imperial Navy war ensign while the Kreigsmarine, which was in existence from 1938-1945 was the war ensign of Nazi's navy.
