Girl, 5, survives four-storey fall, fractures both legs

KAJANG - A-five-year old girl miraculously survived a four-storey plunge from the balcony of a condominium unit in Sungai Long here, and was fortunate to escape with just fractures to both her legs.

District deputy OCPD Supt Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said the child was left alone at home in a baby walker as her father was out working and her mother grocery shopping at around 4pm Wednesday.

"The door to the balcony was open, and the child strolled outside in the walker.

"A few residents saw the child on the balcony and even waved at her, not knowing that she was unsupervised," he added.

Supt Abdul Ghani explained that the girl then climbed out of her walker and over the balcony rails.

"She fell from a height of four storeys onto the roof of an outdoor parking lot.

"A security guard who witnessed the incident then contacted the authorities," he said.

A team from the Kajang Fire and Rescue Department was deployed to the scene to assist the child.

The child was sent to Hospital Kajang for treatment and her condition is now stable.

Police are investigating the case under section Section 31(1) of the Child's Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure.
