Good samaritans help cop nab thief

KUALA LUMPUR - Several Good Samaritans contributed to the arrest of a robber when they started chasing after his car upon seeing him and his accomplices rob a moneychanger on Penchala Link, near Taman Tun Dr Ismail, here.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Azlee Abdullah said that the suspects had used their vehicle to ram the moneychanger, who was transporting a large amount of money on a motorcycle that was headed towards Sri Hartamas.

"The men then rushed out from their Proton Waja with parang and grabbed his bag containing the money along with the victim's gun.

"Several people who witnessed it chased the suspects all the way to Damansara Perdana.

"A police mobile patrol vehicle unit noticed the chase and stopped the car before arresting a suspect, while the other two escaped with the money.

"The stolen gun was also recovered," said ACP Muhammad Azlee.

In a separate incident in Shah Alam, four masked men slipped over the walls of a heavily-guarded gated community before breaking into a three-storey bungalow of a Datuk in Jelutong Heights at around 5am yesterday.

The four, who were wearing ski masks, tied the businessman, in his 40s, with wire.

They had slipped in through the sliding door on the second floor before barging into the Datuk's bedroom where he, his wife and their infant child were sleeping.

The commotion also woke up the Datuk's mother-in-law and maid.

However, the robbers threatened to hurt their victims if they tried to resist.

The thieves later broke into the Datuk's safe.

"They spent 45 minutes in the house and stole about RM30,000 (S$11,549) worth of Indonesian-made jewellery, several branded watches and cash which included ringgit, US dollars as well as rupiah," said Shah Alam deputy OCPD Supt Ruslan Abdullah.
