JITRA - Two Universiti Utara Malaysia students had a harrowing experience when they were trapped in a car during flash floods in Sintok, near here.

Mohd Saiful Afendi Azlan, 25, and Siti Nor Aishah Mohd Zain, 24, were driving home to their hostel in Jalan Sintok-Bukit Kachi when the Perodua Kancil they were travelling in stalled.

Bukit Kayu Hitam Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Lee Ah Hing said it received a distress call at 11.52pm on Sunday and rescue personnel arrived at the scene at 12.16am.

"By the time we arrived, the car was already half-submerged.

"The seven of us then pushed the car to higher ground so the students could get out," he said yesterday, adding that Mohd Saiful and Siti Nor Aishah escaped unhurt.
