ALOR SETAR - A man threw his girlfriend's handphones to the ground, drew out a pistol and shot them to pieces in what is believed to be a fit of jealous rage.
During the 9pm incident on Tuesday, the man, in his 30s, went to the food stall operated by his girlfriend in Naka, near Padang Terap, and grabbed the phones from her.
He then shot the phones several times and left.
However, police arrested the man at a petrol station at about 3.30am on Wednesday after the girlfriend, who is in her 40s, lodged a report.
Police also found several bullets and two handcuffs in a four-wheel-drive vehicle believed to belong to the man.
The man led police to a house in a village nearby where authorities arrested another person, in his 30s, after finding a pump gun, bullets and 22 packets of ketum leaves weighing 135kg.
Kedah deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zakaria Yusof said the authorities were still searching for the pistol that was used to destroy the handphones.
"Both men do not have any criminal record. They are under remand until March 17," he said here yesterday, adding that the case was being investigated under the Firearms Act.
