There is a huge demand for lion dances this year with some troupes having to perform earlier than they usually did during the festive period, reported China Press.

Most troupes had a packed schedule even before the Year of the Goat kicks off on Feb 19.

Besides demand from businesses, the troupes had received an increasing number of invitations to perform at residences.

Selangor and Federal Territory Lion Dance Association chairman Leong Lik Thong said such performances were popular among the community during the festive season as these symbolised joy and happiness.

Award-winning lion dance master Siow Ho Phiew said his troupe had received more invitations compared to last year, adding that those from residences had increased by 20 per cent.
