KUALA LUMPUR - Hindu devotees nationwide celebrated the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival - the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha - on a grand scale.

Thousands thronged Vinayagar temples as early as 4am to fulfil their vows to the God of Wisdom and Prosperity, and witness the grand abishegam (consecration) ceremony.

At the celebration at the Korthumalai Sri Ganesha temple off Jalan Pudu here, devotees broke thousands of coconut as offerings.

Similarly, other Vinayagar temples throughout country conducted prayers for the anniversary.
