Housewife charged over involvement in terrorist activities

KUALA LUMPUR - A housewife was charged in the magistrate's court here with involvement in terrorist activities through her Facebook pages.

Azizah Md Yusof, 54, was accused of two counts of supporting terrorist activities through various Facebook accounts, one of which was under her own name.

The diminutive woman, dressed in a red tudung, red long sleeved shirt and jeans, merely nodded to acknowledge that she understood the charges.

No plea was taken.

The alleged offence occurred inside the Special Branch offices of the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, here on April 24.

Azizah had been arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) on April 28.

Under Section 130(1)(b) of the Penal Code, Azizah faces life imprisonment or up to thirty years prison, a fine, or confiscation of any assets suspected of being used for terrorist activities.

Azizah, who was represented by lawyers KC Suzalena Salleh and Nadzarih Wok Nordin, was seen saying her goodbyes to family members, as she was led to the lockup in handcuffs.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad urged the court to expedite proceedings in order to get the case transferred to High Court.

Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin fixed May 30 for next mention.
