MALACCA - The state government is encouraging the public to use the spelling "Melaka" instead of Malacca, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

He said a memorandum saying "Melaka" was to be used in official correspondence had existed even before he assumed office.

Idris said state secretary Datuk Seri Naim Abu Bakar has also issued a fresh media statement to remind officials that "Melaka" should be the appropriate spelling to be used in all communications.

The intention is to standardise the usage of "Melaka" in any official correspondence.
