JOHOR BARU - An accounting firm's business e-mail has been hacked by an unknown person asking for donations for a sick sister in Ukraine.
C&A Group of Companies chairman and managing director Chong Chai Pin said one of his clients had called the office to verify the authenticity of the e-mail, where a person known as Ms Tan was seeking RM9,346.20 (S$3700) from donors so that she could pay for her sister's heart surgery in Ukraine.
"We want to clarify to our clients that Ms Tan is not our employee, and if you happen to receive the e-mail, just ignore it," Chong told a press conference here yesterday.
When C&A's administrative manager Chong Yin Mai switched on her computer around 9.30am on Tuesday at their office in Taman Majidee here, she realised the company's e-mail had been hacked.
"I believe this is the work of a foreigner as locals will definitely ask for Malaysian ringgit," she said.
She lodged a police report at Taman Pelangi police station. Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh confirmed the report.
