Johor football player killed in road accident

JOHOR BARU - A state football player died while his friend sustained minor injuries after the motorcycle they were on collided with an oncoming car on the Senai-Desaru Express­way here.

Seri Alam deputy OCPD Supt Shahrul Anwar Md Idris said the accident happened at around 12.40am at KM43.5 of the expressway yesterday.

He said Mohamad Amirul Hakim Shamsudin, 18, who had represented Johor Darul Takzim in the President Cup, and his friend Mohd Rafi Abu, 29, were part of a motorcycle convoy heading towards Desaru.

"The victim sustained severe head injuries and died on the way to Hospital Sultan Ismail.

"However, the pillion rider escaped with minor injuries," he said.

Supt Shahrul Anwar said the car driver was unhurt but the impact of the accident caused the vehicle's windscreen to shatter.

He said police are investigating the cause of the accident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
