Journalist jumps on to track, killed by train

KUALA LUMPUR - A journalist jumped onto the tracks at a KTM station here as the train neared, with commuters looking on in horror.

Tamil Malar sub-editor Anamalay Kandasamy was with his friends at the Batu Kentonmen station at about 10.30am yesterday when he was said to have suddenly jumped as the train was about 15m away.

Police said he laid on the tracks and refused to move despite the driver sounding the horn.

"He was killed instantly," said Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy.

The newspaper's managing director Periyasamy Munisamy was shocked by the news, but said the mishap could be due to Anamalay's illnesses.

"He suffered from heart problems and high blood pressure. He had been seeking treatment at a hospital here. We don't know what happened," he said, adding that Anamalay had joined the paper in 2013.
