KUALA LUMPUR - Incumbent Khairy Jamaluddin will most likely be challenged in the Umno Youth chief's post in the party elections next month.
Another Umno member has expressed interest in going for the wing's hot seat at its polls on Oct 12.
Razman Hakimi Abdullah, former head of the corporate communications unit of a ministry, however, said he would only do so if Akhramsyah Sanusi Akhramsyah Muamar Ubaidah decides to drop out.
Akhramsyah, who is the son of former Umno strongman Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, has expressed his interest to challenge Khairy.
On Sunday, Akhramsyah said he was only doing so because no other candidate was challenging Khairy.
Razman, who is also a blogger, told Bernama he would make a final decision after Akhramsyah had announced whether or not he would contest for the post.
"I'll wait for Akhramsyah's announcement.
"If he does not contest, I will announce my intention to contest on Facebook and social sites. I have to wait for Akhramsyah as he is a senior, and I respect him.
"We share the same principles in Umno Youth. Should he decide to contest, I will help his campaign at the grassroots level," said Razman, who is a member of the Umno Youth media unit during the Manek Urai state by-election in Kelantan in 2009.
Akhramsyah, who is a member of the Bendang Baru Umno branch in Langkawi division, yesterday said he would make the official announcement in a day or two.
Akhramsyah said he had to prepare mentally and physically before holding a press conference to make the official announcement.
