MALAYSIA - They had known each for 10 years.
The couple have been living together since 2011 and were supposed to get married next year.
But their relationship ended in tragedy after the 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend, The Star reported.
He later tried to kill himself by stabbing himself with the same knife. But he survived.
It was not immediately known what triggered the fiery quarrel between the former classmates at his home in Malacca.
The incident happened on Monday morning, the report said.
The dead woman, identified as Miss Goh Meng Yee, who worked in a cybercafe, was found lifeless in a room in her boyfriend's family home.
The man, who stabbed himself three times in the abdomen, was rushed to the Malacca Hospital. He is being treated at the intensive care unit.
Melaka Tengah Assistant Commissioner Salehhudin Abdul Rahman said the man stabbed himself after stabbing his lover.
Police have found the weapon in a room and are still investigating the motive behind the killing.
The report said that the relationship turned sour recently when the man told his mother, a divorcee, last week that he did not want to live and preferred to die.
It is not clear what made him say that.
The man's 19-year-old brother, identified only as Edward, said the couple had a heated argument between 9pm and 10pm on Sunday.
"We realised that their argument ended in death only when my mother returned home after getting a distress call from my brother," Mr Edward was quoted as saying.
He said his injured brother was sitting on a sofa in the hall and kept saying that he wanted to die.
