KL-Raub road closed because of cave-in

BENTONG, Malaysia - The road leading to Raub and Kelantan from Kuala Lumpur has been closed after it caved-in at a bridge here.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the incident was caused by soil erosion at the riverbank connecting the Kampung Baru bridge near the Customs Department here.

He said the Public Works Department had swung into action to repair the damage.

"We hope that the road can be opened to at least motorcyclists by tomorrow," he said after a visit to the bridge.

Liow, who is also Bentong MP, took a tour in the woods nearby in search for an alternative road.

"After a survey, we found that the road is not suitable and I have suggested to the Yang Di-Pertua of the Bentong municipal council to turn it into a jogging track," he said.

Bentong OCPD Supt Mansor Mohd Nor advised Karak Highway users to use alternative roads to go to Raub, Pahang and Kelantan.

"After the Bentong toll plaza, do not turn into Bentong, continue with the journey and exit Cinta Manis to use the Jalan Lebu-Raub or Jalan Sertik-Krau roads," he said.
