Labourer in Kedah gets 60 years jail for raping daughter

SUNGAI PETANI: A labourer was sentenced to a total of 60 years in jail and ordered to be whipped 30 times on three counts of raping his underage daughter.

The 36-year-old accused from Kampung Kembai Tembak, Kuala Ketil, who is the father of eight children from two marriages, pleaded guilty to the charges under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.

He admitted to the offence on Wednesday and Sessions Court judge M. Vijayalakshmi sentenced him yesterday.

She said the sentence was a stern warning to society that the court will not tolerate such an immoral act.

She ordered the accused to be jailed 20 years and whipped 10 times for each count, and ruled that the sentences for the first and second counts would run concurrently from the date of his arrest, May 2.

The sentence for the third count was to run consecutively after the others.

The victim was 14 years old at the time of the rapes last year and was the second child from his first marriage. The accused has five children from his first wife and three from the second.

He admitted to raping her in her room at an unnumbered village house in Kuala Ketil and in his own room in the same house in May that year.

He also admitted to raping the girl at an oil palm plantation in Kuala Ketil at about 6am on April 3, 2015.

Deputy public prosecutor Izza Munirah Mansor told the court the victim was still traumatised by the rapes and has stopped schooling.

The accused was unrepresented.
