Lahad Datu police dismiss rumours of intrusion and Sabah attacks

KOTA KINABALU: Police have dismissed rumours of intruders landing in Lahad Datu and planning attacks in Sabah.

Lahad Datu district police chief Assist Comm Hamzah Ahmad said they have checked on the rumours since it started circulating few days back.

"No, those are rumours. There is no truth to what have been circulating as far as we have checked presently," he said, in urging people in the east coast district to avoid spreading unfounded rumours.

Messages that have been circulating in social networks such as WhatsApp and Facebook include 'warnings and cautions' to people not to go out at night or to open their doors as terrorists from the southern Philippines have landed on Sabah shores near Felda, Lahad Datu.

The messages also claim that the military and other security forces have stationed their men and tanks in several locations to fend off the intruders.

There were also rumours claiming that shots have been fired at the Felda area following the 'intrusion'.
