ARAU, Malaysia - It has been more than eight hours and fire fighters were seen battling to put out the fire which started about 4pm this evening at the Padang Siding landfill here.

Arau Station chief Mohd Kifli Hamid said more then 40 fire fighters mostly from the Arau Fire brigade were deployed to the site to put out the fire.

Mohd Kifli said cause of the fire was still under investigation.

He was also unable to estimate how much longer it would take to put out the fire.

"The landfill is about four hectares while the area which had caught fire was about 0.5 hectares.

"The height of the rubbish which was on fire is about 3 metre high," Mohd Kifli said.

He said they have managed to control the fire from spreading and are now working on to completely put out the fire.
