PUTRAJAYA - The next-of-kin of Malaysian victims in the MH17 tragedy will be consulted when arrangements are made for the repatriation of the bodies, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic).

He said the Government would, at all times, be guided by the next-of-kin and try to carry out the repatriation in line with their wishes.

"Efforts to locate and identify the victims of the MH17 tragedy continue. Once the bodies have been identified and the necessary forensic work completed, the next-of-kin will be informed.

"Arrangements for repatriating the bodies will then be discussed with the next-of-kin," he said in a statement here yesterday.

Liow, who heads the committee to oversee the last rites for the MH17 victims, said arrangements were also being made for a national day of mourning once all remains had been returned to Malaysia.

The committee also has representatives from the Defence Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and the Communication and Multimedia Ministry.
