Little India Riot: Foreign workers in Malaysia are happy, says minister

PETALING JAYA - Foreign workers in Malaysia are generally contented and Sunday’s unrest involving immigrants in Singapore is unlikely to happen here, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem.

He said there were government policies in place to ensure the welfare of foreign workers.

“So far, there has been no picketing which means they are happy,” said Riot after launching a portal by the Institute of Labour Market Information and Analysis (Ilmia).

The death of a foreign worker who was knocked down by a bus in Singapore’s Little India sparked off the riot involving hundreds of immigrants and left 27 injured.
