SHAH ALAM - The driver of a trailer lorry fled after its malfunctioning gear caused a 13-vehicle pile-up in Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari here.

The lorry, which was transporting sand, was moving along the highway when the gear failure led to the driver losing control of the vehicle at 1.30pm yesterday.

The lorry then collided with nine cars on its lane and another three from the opposite side at an intersection.

The crash also led to two other vehicles, a car and a lorry, to skid off the side of the road when the drivers tried to avoid the accident.

There were no fatalities.

When the police arrived at the scene, the driver of the lorry in question was nowhere to be found.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said checks on his registered place of residence were unsuccessful and that investigations were underway to locate the missing driver.
