PETALING JAYA - Former Malaysian prime minister and now opposition leader Mahathir Mohamad should be discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) in a few days, said his daughter Marina Mahathir.
She said although she did not see her father on Sunday (Feb 11), she was told by her mother, Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, that he was fine.
"He should be out in a couple of days," Marina said after speaking at a Bersih 2.0 event at the Civic Centre here on Sunday.
The 92-year-old Pakatan Harapan chairman was admitted to IJN on Saturday for a chest infection after a bad bout of cough.
"The doctors prefer him there (IJN) where they have everything they need," said Marina. Marina described her father's infection as a "job hazard" for politicians, with their schedules and meeting with lots of people.
"I think anyone would get the same thing, really," she said, adding that she was sure her father would recover after Chinese New Year.
Dr Mahathir was supposed to attend a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia programme in Bentong on Saturday but cancelled his appearance following doctors' advice.
