MALACCA - A car was burnt in a suspected arson attack at the parking lot of the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Jalan Hang Tuah here on Monday.

At 11.30pm, the car belonging to Yayasan Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI), one of the agencies housed at the nine-storey building, went up in flames.

A cleaning supervisor alerted a security guard and they extinguished the fire to prevent it from spreading to other vehicles.

They found a threatening note on the windshield of an adjacent car, warning that an explosive device had been planted at the building.

Witnesses claimed that a man was seen loitering near the UTC parking compound but he fled soon after. A police bomb squad swept the area but found no explosives.

Melaka Tengah deputy police chief Superintendent Muhammad Koey Abdullah said the search was halted at 3.30am.
